A4 print of Mikao Usui in a black frame.

Hi, my name is Sally Wain. Apart from being the principal Reiki Practitioner & Reiki teacher at Komyo ReikiDo Melbourne, I am also an occasional artist. I have had some drawings published in a Buddist magazine and have won a minor prize at the Camberwell Art Show many years ago. Still life & portraits have always captured my interest. The portrait of Mikao Usui was something that I toyed with for quite a while before actually painting him.  It was a little daunting since many Reiki Practitioners & teachers knew his face intimately but I was called to do this and so the journey of 3 years and 2 paintings began. It took me a long time because I wanted to convey Usui Sensei's essence. I discarded one painting only to paint a larger version. I picked up the brush to paint his face quite quickly but it took a long time, many times stopping and resuming before seeing that Usui Sensei was there before me. His expression & his energy was there. The portrait now hangs in my Reiki Studio in Mitcham. All who see him remark on his presence. This is also true of the prints that I have sold so far. Everyone who bought a print also remarks on his presence. The portrait was done in acrylics on cotton canvas & is framed under glass.
